The Day I Talk About Differences

A message I received in my e-mail not long ago. and I feel like I should share it here.

The Letter

To the future:

The most prominent issue in my life is homosexuality. I'm gay. Yeah, call me a fag, throw insults at me, I don't really care. The truth is, you don't understand. You don't know who I am, and you don't know what it means to me.

You can't tell me I made this decision, and you can't tell me that God hates me. I'm not listening to that anymore. I'm done with the guilt and I'm done with the questioning. Please. End your hatred and edn this suffering. Love is love, be it friendship, familial love, true love or puppy love. And love between humans is simply that - person to person. It has been said thatlove is blind, and it is blind to gender as well.

So open your minds and your hearts. End the hatred, the violence, thesuicide adn the misinformation. Do you realise that 30% of suicides among adolescents are by teens who are queer? This is deeply upsetting, nto to mention disproportionate, considering that onli 10% of the population is GLBT. Ignorance is not bliss, and hatred is not something to be admired.

Rejoice in our similarities and rejoice in our differences. Let no more tragedies take place. The Bible says "Love casteth out fear". DOn't be afraid of me.The Bible says "Love thy neighbour". I'm here, this is out planet;

Love Me.

The Day I Talk About Post Exam Stress

My phone got stolen. My revision's not going as smoothly as I hoped it would have. My brain's freezing out. I'm in such a bad dilemma.

Kill me...

The Day I Talk About The Oscars

The Oscars were a tad disappointing if you ask me.
I dunno what's going on with the Academy, but they were too politically correct in their prize giving, if you ask me. Talk about predictability...

I'm really unhappy with the fact that Felicity Huffman didn't win the best actress award. I mean, it's amazing how convincing she was in Transamerica as a transvestite who finds out that she has a gay prostitute son. A woman who's acting as a man who went through a sex change to become a woman? This girl deserves some recignition... And in the end, they gave the award to Reese Witherspoon.

Apparently the Academy's still very conservative, despite the fact that there were very anti-conservative movies in the running for many awards this year (think Brokeback and Transamerica). The Best Picture Award went to the multi-racial, plot-intertwined Crash. Haven't seen that movie but I heard it's not as deserving as Brokeback Mountain (which I thought was a great movie. Made me cry...)

On the fashion front, one person stood out to me in particular.
This woman won the "Golden Guy" for Best Actress two years back as an ugly, cellulite-filled lesbian serial killer in Monster. And she's none other than... *drum roll please*

Shaun made a really funny comment about her outfit. We were both in the canteen watching Channel News Asia when they did a fashion coverage about the Red Carpet celebrities and we saw Miss In-the-gown-with-a-black-and-HUGE-Satin-Ribbon. It was so hilarious!

Shaun: If she felt tired during the Awards show, all she has to do is just tilt her head over and snore.

Haha... Oh yes, I thought Jessica Alba looked so HOT with her back-to-brunette hairstyle. Blonde is just so not her colour.

And that's it for my views on the Oscars of 2006...

The Day I Do A Recap Of The Past Week

Haven't updated in ages. Here goes...!

Sunday
The TalentQuest '06 Semifinals went pretty well. I didn't exactly do my best for my solo (cos it wasn't my main priority) but hey, it was a good performance alright. Even though I didn't get into the finals, I think I performed pretty ok. The Duet was good too, but we didn't get into the Finals either. Guess BLUE and Lee Hom weren't good enough to save us. But I'm really still at a loss as to why we were beaten by the duo of psuedo-S.H.E. NUS undergrads. In my opinion, we were better than them. Oh well... At least everyone loved us. Heh.

Thanks to Wan Jin, ShiYun (and her boyfriend Ivan), Wan Teng, Tsung-Wei, Felicia, Jiahao, JunYi, Geok Khoon, Marcus' parents and my parents for coming down to lend us support. We really appreciated it. Also, special thanks to my dad for his help in arranging the Lee Hom song into a duet.

Monday
It was a really good day cos I got to see my buddy. It was also the day I came to the revalation than my best friend (in school), Shaun, has more friends of his own now (namely his ICS buddies) and that I shouldn't get too sensitive when he chooses to spend time with them instead of me. I'm totally possesive I tell you. And to think that me and Shaun are only, like, good friends. Can't imagine what I'd do when I get attached eh? *shivers*

Tuesday
Long day. 3 and a half hours worth of breaks. Had a nice gym session with Meifeng. Nothing much to shout about.

Wednesday
Two words: Long day.
School was ok until the release of the 'A' Level results. NYJC did horribly. Well, at least the Arts faculty was pretty horrible. There were so many people crying... And Shaun said something really funny (and slightly stupid):

Shaun: Maybe they're crying tears of joy?
Me: If you were crying tears of joy, would you retreat into some secluded corner to bawl? *cue roll-eyes*

Anyways, I was really glad because *surprise-surprise* Shaun actually passed his Tamil (with a measely C6, yes, but it's still a pass nonetheless)! And Marcus got a B4 for his CLO! So happy for them...

Then I had dance. Had the crazy stretching session again and I almost died cos I accidentally snapped my lower back. Not in two, of course, but I sprained it. Above that, I still had to carry Rachel and it was so agonising throughout. Imagine this routine: carry the girl, fall onto the floor, stretch, kick, stretch, roll, stretch, bend your back, stretch etc etc... Dance was just strenous and taxing on my body. I am so not made for dancing...

Then later in the evening, right after dance, I went straight for Econs tuition. It was pretty insightful and I made a few new friends as well. Then I headed home and completed my Geog tutorial before turning in at 2am. *sigh*

Talk about a long day. *sighs deeply*

Thursday
I love squash! PE was great cos we played squash and I'm getting better at it every lesson. It's one of the rare sports that I can actually play well. Most of the time, I just sit in the sidelines, envying all the skillful sportsmen and sportswomen because i suck at most sports. Anyway, school was like any other day, complete with the daily dosage of vitamin st-r-3SS and a jab filled with b1tCHy-t3Ach3Rs.

Had Econs again at night.

Friday
School was fine, with the coincidental pep-talk by all the subject teachers about the need of doing well so as to get into our desired courses in Uni. I tell you, anymore of such pep talks and I'll go mad. It's really irritating to have teachers breathing down your neck and at the same time give you added pressure about your results, as if we're not stressed enough already. Urgh...

Went out with Tammi for lunch at Plaza Singapura. It was a great bonding session. We saw Ms Ong (my PE teacher) on our train ride to Dhoby Ghaut and I'm sure she had the wrong idea bout the both of us. Sucks for me, I guess.

In the evening, I helped Jevon out at The Cathedral of The Good Shepherd for the Stations of the Cross. It's been like 2 months since I last saw him (he went to Thailand for a month for some NS training) and he's not changed one bit. Curious and curiouser. Hmmm...

Didn't see my eye-candy at all this whole week... *sigh*

Wow. Long post. Shall go to bed now... Guten Nacht! :)

The Day I Went For Music Fest & Jones' Party

Music Fest was ok. It was pretty hot and stuffy though cos all the aircon's in the St Nick's Drama Studio simultaneously broke down. Talk about bad timing. Later that night, I went to Jones' 18th birthday party with Joeyee. Wasn't very fun cos I knew hardly anyone there (with the exception of Uzuki-san). Saw many many ajs. Heh. Oh yes, I saw Tjan too. Haven't seen him in ages though. He hasn't changed much, which is definitely a good thing.

I'm quite pissed with Joeyee though... *sigh*

The Day We Won The One

Ok, so we won The One. One down, two more to go.

I'm really quite fatigued with all these singing competitions. *sigh*
So tiring...

The Day Of February The 14th

Two hours before
We were fine
Two hours later
You came and
You tell me
"I gotta go
Go back to
My old flame
Cos I'm guilty
Of letting go
Of my past
Of letting go
Of our relationship"

My heart stopped
It almost did
I could have
Very well so

I was lost
I am lost
I was confused
I am confused
I couldn't breathe
I couldn't see
I couldn't sleep

It was like
Telling me that
What we had
Really meant nothing
Nothing at all

I hope you
Will be happy
With the decision
That you made

The Day I Turned 18

I had a horrible day.
Bad.
Terrible.
Fucked up.
(Insert angsty term here)

First thing I read in the morning as an sms that went like this:
"Gd morning. Congrats on turning 18. U'r legal. FOR JAIL! Bwahahahaha..."
Very nice. Really very nice. That wasn't the worst part.

The sky fell down on me when I got my math results. E8.
Cried my eyes out for god-knows how long...
And I had a headache (compliments of the rain. Didn't bring an umbrella you see.)
Then there was that The One bullshit. Complete and utterly senseless bullshit. There was quite a big fuss made (by the council people. Doles I tell you. Those doles... *mutters* They have serious issues, I tell you...) about our music and whatnot. Irritated the shit out of me. Added so much more fuel to the fire of my bad results and a head-splitting ache at my temples. I was all-ready to flame-on. Luckily Marcus and Junyi were there. I'd have exploded if they didn't stop me. Oh, they got a me a TY bear. How sweet, eh?

Thank God for my classmates. Can't put into words how much they've done for me.
They're the sweetest bunch of people you could ever meet, I tell you. They were here for me when I was at my lowest point (today) and they were the ones who made my birthday memorable, sans the bad stuff that happened today. They made me a card, got me a bear and a cute sash. And a really unhealthy birthday cake.

While having my sort-of-birthday-dinner-yet-not-very-birthday-dinner (if you know what I'm saying), I saw Shaun and his family drift past the Peranakan restaurant I was in. Wanted to call out but didn't. Oh well....

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

The Day I Post For The First Time In February

It has all been ok I guess. Haven't been feeling well lately and I think it's due to the weather. School hasn't been all that great cos work just keeps piling on us and there's hardly any time for a breather. I miss J1...

Anyways, here are some quick updates. Me, Marcus and our new member Shannen (or some of you may know her as Junyi) have gotten into the finals of The One in our school. Hoorah. And since we're on the topic of competitions, I'll be performing this Saturday at Jurong Point for the Quarter Finals of the NUS TalentQuest competition in both the solo and group categories. Yes, I'm advertising. But this is my blog.

Oh yes, I'm turning 18 on Friday. It's not something I'm really looking forward to though. "Why?" you ask. Well, here are some reasons:
Club? Been there. Done that. Not my thing.
Drink? Started since I was 15. Not a big fan of it.
Smoke? Disgusting.
M-18 Movies? I just caught my first NC-16 movie a week ago. And I'm turing 18 in 2 days time. Go figure.

Ok, here's the real reason. I'm afraid of growing up. Turning 18 means that I'm hitting adulthood (at least that's the case for most countries), which means no more childishness and kiddy BS. Which means I have to grow up (in the head, that is). Not that I'm immature, but it's intimidating. It really is.

I have to get over it.

The Day I Caught Memoirs Of A Geisha

Memoirs of a Geisha was a wonderful movie. The screenplay was pretty good, keeping the essence of the novel. The director was awesome. I just loved his Chicago. The little Japanese girl Ohgo Suzuka stole my heart with her amazing performance as the young Sayuki and Gong Li did an amazingly good job as the bitch geisha Hatsumomo. Michelle Yeoh looked pretty old for the role of "most popular Geisha" Mameha but she was very convincing nonetheless. Ken Watanabe. What can I say about him? He's Japan's best actor around!

Now, Zhang Ziyi (or Ziyi Zhang, as she likes to be known nowadays). She's got a long way to go in terms of acting. Her expressions were good, but not convincing enough. Blah. I'm just nit-picky.

It's off to Chingay (sounds like a Singaporean take on Mardi Gras innit? Chingay? Heh heh...) rehearsals again tomorrow morning. *sigh* Gotta go. Cya...

The Day I Write A Love Poem

Truth For You

These words are truth from love
For the one I treasure most
A year apart makes no difference
Cos what's from the heart is most
Precious

Hari Raya we walked along
Town with my stack of heavy notes
They weren't heavy
Cos you
Were there beside me

In the box we smiled as lights
Flashed and blinded our eyes
The moment we had inside
Felt truly like heaven

You crack me up with
Your sidesplitting jokes
Your smile so true and sweet
I smile too
The nearer the
More beautiful you are

Atheletic you say you're not
You're not
But I still feel the same
It won't change
It cannot

You're beautiful
Eyes that shine through photographs
Though you're not really there
You feel real
Real enough

You are perfect
Like a cold sundae on a hot hot day
I wish and I
Pray
That you feel the same
About me.

Three words
Dare I say?

Footnote:
The poem above is written on behalf of my friend who related his story to me and wanted a poem written for his special someone.

The Day I Went Shopping For The Lit Room

Yesterday
Was at Carrefour and IKEA doing shopping for our Lit room with Mrs Gan (and her husband), Ms Victor, Ms Kwok, Colleen and Emily (along with her boyfriend. Dunno his name.) It was so fun I tell you. Shopping with someone else's money is the greatest pleasure on Earth becuase you don't really get to do it all the time. Got lots and lots of cusions now! Yay!

Today
Had my 1st Chingay Street Rockers rehearsal at SRJC. So many people. So many cheers. So noisy. So fun. Haha... I'm nuts.

The Day I Saw...

You come back 6 months after the
Grieving you've made me go through
You say sorry
Should I forgive you?

I will.

Will I forget?

I won't.

You said I was too nice
You didn't say goodbye
You want my forgiveness

6 months
It's a long time
6 months
I can't forget
2 months
You made me go mad
1 lifetime
Of that wretched memory

I wanna say
"Go to hell, muthaf***ing a**hole"
But I can't
I won't

The new year has come
The time for forgiveness is due
Forgive you,
I will

But I will never forget what you did to me.

The Day I Went For TalentQuest '06

It was a good day. Woke up at 9 plus 10 and waited at home for Marcus till bout 1 to practise The Reason. Yes, we did that dratted song for the auditions later in the noon a'capella (meaning no instrumental accompaniment) at the god-forsaken PartyWorld KTV along Shenton Way. It turned out so much better than expected. We should have kept it that way all along. Sigh...

Oh yes, and my solo was oh-so-close to perfect. So close. But it was good nonetheless. Wowza! :D

And I have finally gotten over the mental hindrance of thinking that I'm imperfect. Hell, everyone is. I may not be the best looking guy there is, neither am I the tallest. But God is fair innit? He gave me a voice. Hey, I'm glad I can walk and see and hear! What more can I ask for?

So I'd like to urge those out there who are perpetually dissatisfied with your lives to take a moment and sit down to reflect on how lucky you are even though it may seem that you lack in so many things. You have so much that you just don't notice how fortunate you are. Be grateful.

PS: I'll update stuff bout my camp and trip asap, once I've settled all the pics and stuff. Sorry bout the delay...

The Day I Leave SYC And Head For Australia

Today's the last day I'm spending at the Sunburst Youth Camp (SYC) and also the day I'm heading off to Australia. Feeling pretty sad right now as I'm typing this entry at the RELC's cyber cafe.

Will have more updates when I get back to Singapore. Ciao for now.

The Day I Talk About Stupid Computers

My computer's really getting on my nerves. I'm guessing there's this unreachable bug or something that my antivirus and antispyware can't find. Stupid stupid stupid stupid. Aaaargh...

Sorry bout this random post. I'm just so pissed.

By the way, you guys should really check out the Young Avengers. I just got my hands on the Premier Edition trade paperback of their first 6 issues today. Am now poorer by $30 but it's so worth it. It's written by Allan Heinberg, writer and producer of The O.C. and has worked on shows like Gilmore Girls and Sex in the City. It's really really good. Loved the plot and the characters.

Gotta go pack now. Cya...

The Day I Talk About Superfunkies

Omygawd I appeared on Superfunkies.

Stupid show. Stupid me. Urgh.
I can't go out tomorrow already. Sooo embarassing...
