The Day Jean Lost Her Wallet & Eating Peranakan Food

The weekend has been exciting.

New people, old friends, and lots and lots of drama and spice into your usually mundane life I tell you. Jean lost her wallet yesterday and we (meaning Me, Jiapei, Jean and Eric) scoured (almost) the whole of the Clark Quay/Mohamad Sultan area for it, but to no avail. After a police report (for the lost IC), we went on to chill at MOX. It was a fun night of joy and alchohol and laughter.

Finding a wallet isn't easy...

...but we still have time to take photographs (of each other)

...and we saw some crazy kids getting wet in a fountain

Eric hates the flash

...but Jiapei & I love it :)

After mugging today, went for dinner with Mum and Eric at some Peranankan restaurant in Joo Chiat. We ordered too much food, and ended up leaving the place like stuffed turkey. But it was a good dinner, nonetheless. Saw something amusing while I was there.

The Day Of Almost Doing Nothing And Lotsa Bitching

We had some crappy Career Talk after school today, and lots of people did turn up in office wear. Some were, naturally, disasters, but there were a few people who looked quite good.

My classmates didn't turn up in office wear, with the exception of our beloved Marilyn, who turned up in school looking the part of a prospective banker. No kidding. Some of us made paper ties and badges to "mock" the occasion.

Here are some pics of:

Tammi, the one who started the paper ties and all. God bless her...

Shaun, with his pink "bow tie, with his "Emplyeee of the Month" badge. Lovely, innit?

Here's Sean in a post-gym, mismatched outfit of singlet and paper tie.

Bitched and chatted at Tom Yum again during lunch. Some random, candid pics:

It was a long lunch cos GP was cancelled! I know I'm not supposed to be syaing this but it I was nice to have one less lesson... Tomorrow will be the "Fund Raising" National Day celebration. How fun it is to raise funds... Haha! Pun! Get it? Get it?

The Day Of Learning And Teaching, Teaching And Learning

Today was a day of fruitful mugging and teaching, of which the latter activity almost burnt a gargantuan cavity through my thick skull.

Was studying after school at the McCafe in Great World City after curch today, then post-lunch, at the Serangoon Gardens Country Club study room with Jerome, who was preparing for his SATS while I tried to cram Econs into my almost non-absorbant gray-goo.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Here's the study room that we studied in. Too quiet for my liking,if you ask me.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And this is Jerome. Having the time of his life practising his SATS skills. Looks fun, eh?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is the Dictionary that he uses to check-out unknown words. Like how much information can this little thing store? (Note the size difference between Calculator and Dictionary.)

After mugging, I went to Grandma's place for dinner and at the same time, gave my cousins (4 of them) tuition. It was terrible. After my constant nagging and "must remember ah!" and "use the dictionary!" and "do your corrections!", they still made the same mistakes. Over. And over. Again. Imagine this: One's in K2 (going to P1 next year), one's in P3, another's in P5 and the last one's in P6 (yes PSLE year). How can I not worry, I ask you?

Sigh.

If only they could be more responsible with their own work.

The Day After Pirates And The Departure Of A Certain Animal

Caught Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest with Shaun yesterday (yes Shaun it's only becuase of you that I agreed to catch the show). My take on the show? It wasn't as good as the first, and for the fact that I'm not a fan of the franchise, it was quite a boring show. If there's one person who saved the show, it's Johnny Depp. You gotta admire his eccentricity.

Dunno why but Keira Knightley gets cloyingly annoying with every show she stars in. Maybe it's just me.

The cow has left Singapore. Feels weird without the constant moo-ing. Thankfully it's only for a week.

89 more days to the A's...
And 10 more days to Christina's "Back to Basics"! The anticipation... *drools*

When there's no one else
Look inside youself
Like your oldest friend
Just trust the voice within

Then you'll find the strength
That will guide your way
You will learn to begin
To trust the voice within

The Day I Talk About My NS Vocational Interview

I had a break from my own angst yesterday and stepped into a whole new world of angst aka Commando Training Camp (Singapore).

I was down for my vocational test, which turned out to be a IQ & Personality Test-cum-Medical Checkup-cum-Fitness Test-cum-Interview thingy. Here's a possible future scenario, starring yours truly: I'm a Commando, doing all the rigorous training that Commandos do, running with my campmates, doing all kinds of dangerous stunts like parasailing, parachuting, eating bugs etc, body dripping with mud and perspiration... Can you imagine?

Cos I certainly can't.

Anyway, here's a blow by blow account of my experience yesterday:

- Took a shuttle sevice provided by the SAF from Pasir Ris MRT to the campsite at 8.

- Some high ranking Commando guy told us that "We interview about 500 people but only take in 250 only every year." And I sat there thinking, "Riiiight..."

- Had that IQ test thingy from 8.30 - about 11 plus. All of us practically froze our arses off in that bloody cold LT. Imagine being in your PE get-up and in a very well air-conditioned room.

- Defrosted ourselves on the way to the "Medical Centre" to do some check-up, which was actually just some guy sitting at a desk while we stood three-by-three, and answered "Yes" or "No" to this question: "Have any of you had any serious injuries before?"

- Answered "No."

- Did pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups (it's not even tested in NAFA. Oh well...) and my favourite standing broad jump. Was pretty ok I guess.

- Had lunch "at your own expenses" (quote Commando guy).

- Went through the interview. It didn't take more than 5 mins. Just asked me stuff like what I liked to do and what I know about the army. Quotabale quote: "Don't listen to what other people say about the Army." And I sit there and thought to myself (yet again), "Riiiiiight..."

And that pretty sums up my Cammando interview experience.

Dad was ok when I told him that the interview was for Commando but Mum didn't take the news quite well. Well, I'll just take whatever comes, I guess.

The Day I Rant About Having Only 94 Days To The A's

OhmygodohmygodohmygodOHMYGOD...

94 FUCKING DAYS TO THE FUCKING A'S!!!!!!
(The last I checked, it was 99 days. Like whatthefuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck...)

And like 4 weeks to Prelims! I. Am. Majorly. Fucked. Like, MAJORLY FUCKED (is there even such a word. What the hell..)

I need more time!!! NononononoNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Maybe I'll go sell my soul or something. Anyone have any connections in that field?

I shouldn't even be blogging. Urgh.
Sickening.

The education system is like a virus and exams are like the major attacks to your system. Once it gets to you, you just convulse and get cardiac arrest before turning blue. Like what everyone (I'm making an assumption here) who's taking the A's is experiencing now.

Somebody please do me a favour and shoot me...

The Day I Went To The Hospice & The Day I Got A New Phone

I was at the Assisi Hospice yesterday doing volunteer work and I must say, it was an amazing experience. Life became so different, as I saw and helped people who needed help for almost everything ie eating, drinking, showering, poo-pooing etc but could still have such a positive outlook on life.

I've learnt to cherish the life God has given me more and I'm definitely going to go back there to help out every week. If you're ineterested to know what the nurses do and want to help the sick, please do drop by the hospice as a volunteer. It's right next to Mt Alvernia Hospital, near MacRitchie Resevoir.

Got a new phone yesterday too. A Nokia 6280. Great phone...

Ok, gotta go sleep now. 95 more days to the A's...

The Day I Talk About Winnie The Pooh

"Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, funny little silly old bear.."

Just heard something off Class 95FM. Yas was just talking about Winnie the Pooh and how the whole emsemble of characters from the Disney show happened to be male (with the exception of Kanga, who's the mummy of Roo. Hmmm.. I wonder who's the Daddy? Hahaha...)

Something's fishy about The 100 Acre Wood I tell you...

Tyra Banks is hilarious!!!
ROFLMAO....

The Day I Post CRAZY Lyrics

Crazy - Patsy Cline

Crazy, I'm crazy for feeling so lonely
I'm crazy, crazy for feeling so blue
I knew you'd love me as long as you wanted
And then someday you'd leave me for somebody new

Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Wond'ring what in the world did I do?
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you

I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying

And I'm crazy for loving you.

The Day After CHMA 2006

CHMA 2006 was a blast!

Had a really good time watching and performing this year. Younger contestants are making their way to the finals and winning this thing, which is a fantabulous. Last night's overall winner was a Sec 1 instrumentalist Derek Koh who played the yang qing and left us all in awe.

Marcus and I sang "Right Here Waiting" twice last night, the second time because of a special request by Mrs Chaillan (pronounced shay-lawn. It's French), one of the judges on the panel, who was my ex-music teacher and current vice-principal of Catholic High (Primary).

Thanks to God, everything went smoothly.

Many thanks to all the crew-members of the iMedia who put so much time and effort in preparing for the show, the contestants for their undying musical passion, Kong Meng for his piano accompaniment, and the teachers who invited Marcus and I back to Cat High for a guest-performance slot.

After 4 consecutive years, I guess last night was my last performance at CHMA for the forseeable future. The feeling of seeing this show develop from it's very initial concept, being part of it as a contestant to and alumni member, and watching it play out so beautifully again last night, is impossible to describe.

Here's a nice a'capella video of an all-Asian group called At Last who are contestants of America's Got Talent. They're really good.

The Brandy-Piers banter is priceless.
Brandy blandy! Haha...

The Day I Talk About Class Politics

I once said that my class was the most peaceful and loving bunch of Hippies, but I'm afraid I'd have to eat my own words now.

Cos it's not.

There's bitching and gossip and rumours about so and so and whatnot. Hell, even I got involved in a high-profile "bitch-fight". But that's long over so let's not dwell on that. What I'm trying to say is, hating and beating-the-crap-out-of-each-other-even-though-not-literally-cos-you're-doing-it-behind-each-other's-backs is not healthy.

If there are any disagreements or anything that you feel that you're uncomfortable with, why don't you just talk it out like sensible adults?

Class politics can be prevented. Just find the person you have beef with, sit down (or you could stand up), and talk it out. It's not easy, I know, but it's the better of two alternatives. Nobody likes conflicts. Nobody likes awkward moments. Why make our own lives in school more miserable than it already is?

Make love, not war. Like the old Chinese saying goes, it's "always better to have a friend than to have one more enemy". Isn't it?

The Day I Saw A Parent Slap A Child

This was what I saw during dinner at a food court today:

Toddler: *cries*
Mother: You cry somemore I slap you again ah!
Toddler: *cries somemore*
Mother: YOU AH!*slaps child*

Here's the deal: When you have a kid, go for parenting lessons. Or else, don't have one. Do you really think a toddler (about 1-2 years old) will understand you when you just slap him/her? What kind of parent are you if you just keep doing that?

I mean, I'm all for corporeal punishment, but if only used sparingly like when a kid is misbehaving or needs to be disciplined to do the right thing. And slapping without explanation is not a way to use it.

The Day I Read The Five People You Meet In Heaven

I've just finished The Five People You Meet In Heaven and I think I should share this. It's really heart-warming and gives you a different perspective on death and afterlife.

Go get the book and you'll know what I mean.

The Day I Got To Wake Up Without Mummy Screaming In My Ear

It's wonderful to be able to wake up without Mummy screaming me awake. See, this is the usual drill for every single day of my holidays:

(Translated from mandarin)
"IT'S 9 ALREADY YOU BETTER GET OUT OF BED OR ELSE YOU WON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO STUDY WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP!!!"

Well, it's something along those lines, and she's usually bluffing about the time. If she says it's 9, it's most probably 8.30, and it's not like I don't have an alarm clock by my bedside you know. Anway, enough about my lovely morning (and mummy-"bashing", in case she sees this. I secretly think she found my blog).

The Day Leonid The Magnificant Hit Me In The Face (Well, Not Literally)

There's this new show in the States and it's called America's Got Talent. From my previous entry (the one with the 11-year-old Bianca Ryan), you can see that America's got some talent alright. But here's something that puzzles me:

Simon Cowell, acid-tongued judge of American Idol fame, is the Executive Producer and brainchild of the show. And he picks former anorexic pin-up girl Brandy and David "lao tiko" Hasselhoff of Baywatch fame as 2 of the 3 the judges (the last guy's Piers Morgan, some British show-host and newspaper editor) for the show? Brandy and Hasselhoff. (Hasselhoff better be grateful, seeing how he's got not much of a career post-Baywatch.)

With a line-up of judges like that, you can expect some weird judges picks.

Here's a guy who calls himself Leonid The Magnificant.

Apparently, he's some queen from the New York night scene who migrated to the States from Sickle-&-Hammer Land (aka Russia). Odd guy, with even odder antics.

Enjoy...

Blandy's really got no clue about the fine line between entertainment and acts-of-stupidity (ie playing with swords on national tv and almost killing yourself).
